The Board of Directors of Baseball PEI is proud to announce that Nathan Jones, from St. Peter’s Bay, has been named the 2019 recipient of the Tanner Craswell and Mitch MacLean Memorial Bursary, valued at $500.
Jones has an impressive resume. Over the past two winters, Nathan has attended Badlands Baseball Academy in Oyen, Alberta. During the 2018-2019 season, he was one of the Badlands Badgers’ top pitchers with an ERA of 3.23 over 44 innings, striking out 52 batters. At the plate, he hit a very impressive .340 with an on-base percentage of .417. In the past, he has represented Prince Edward Island at several National tournaments, including the Canada Games, Baseball Canada Cup (where, in Moncton in 2018, he hit .364 with an OBP of .500), and was named to the all-star team of 2016 National 15U Championships. He has consistently been one of the top hitters and pitchers on each team he has played on. Jones’ hard work has paid off, as he will be attending the Williston State College in Williston, North Dakota this fall to play with their Tetons team in NCJAA baseball.
However, there is more to Jones than just playing baseball. At South Central High School in Oyen, Alberta, Nathan was an honour roll student who was recognized by his teachers and fellow students for his academics, volunteering and pleasant demeanour. At the baseball field, he was named team captain by his fellow teammates in his senior year. It was clear to all involved that Nathan Jones meets and exceeds the leadership requirement of this Bursary.
Nathan Jones truly embodies the criteria of the Tanner Craswell and Mitch MacLean Memorial Bursary, as he has been an elite player on Baseball PEI’s Provincial Teams, is a clear leader on all of the teams he is part of, and due to his hard work will be playing collegiate baseball in North Dakota this upcoming fall.
Baseball PEI again wishes to congratulate Nathan Jones!
