Baseball PEI has named the head coaches for the following 2020 Provincial teams:

  • Provincial 13U: Bob Doyle

Bob Doyle returns to coach the Provincial 13U team after guiding this team to a fourth-place finish at the 2019 Baseball Canada National 13U Championships in Repentigny, QC. Doyle has coached various Provincial teams over the years, from Canada Games to Youth Selects and others. This is the third year in a row he will coach the Provincial 13U team, and his experience and pedigree are very helpful at this age group, with many of the players never had the experience of playing at a National Championship. The 2020 Baseball Canada National 13U Championships will be held in Windsor, ON, from 27 – 30 August 2020.

  • Provincial 15U: Dave “Hippie” MacDougall

“Hippie” MacDougall has over 40 years of experience either playing or coaching at a high level of baseball on PEI. MacDougall has coached several teams at Baseball Canada National Championships, from 13U to 21U, and has coached many teams on PEI to Provincial and Atlantic titles. He had coached at the 15U “AAA” level for the past two years, and before that, he coached the Provincial 13U team to an inning away from making it to the semifinals at the National 13U Championships in 2017. The 2020 Baseball Canada Ray Carter Cup is in Okotoks, AB, from 27 – 30 August 2020.

  • Provincial 16U Girls: Randy Byrne

Randy Byrne, who is also the Executive Director of Baseball PEI, has been involved in baseball as either a player or coach for over 25 years. Most recently, he coached the Provincial 16U Girls team in 2019 at the Baseball Canada National 16U Girls Championship in Bedford, NS. This was the first time that PEI sent a team to the National 16U Girls Championships with a team made up solely of girls from PEI. Byrne has also coached teams to Provincial titles and Atlantic Championships. The 2020 Baseball Canada National 16U Girls Championships will be in Summerside, PE in August of 2020.

  • Youth Selects: Rob McCormack

Rob McCormack has also had a great deal of experience as a player and coach and recently led the Provincial 15U team to a bronze medal at the Baseball Canada Ray Carter Cup this past August. As well, in 2018, he led the PEI Youth Selects to a .500 record at the Baseball Canada Cup in Moncton. McCormack has also coached several other teams at Baseball Canada events and has coached several club teams to Provincial and Atlantic titles. McCormack will lead the Selects to the Baseball Canada Cup in Fort McMurray, AB, from 5 – 9 August 2020, and he will also coach the PEI Canada Games team at the 2021 Canada Summer Games in Niagara, ON in August 2021.

  • 18U All-Stars: Evan Myers

Evan Myers, who recently led the Cardigan Clippers to a 2019 Baseball Atlantic 18U “AA” Silver medal as head coach, and was the manager of the 2019 18U All-Stars, will be the 2020 18U All-Stars head coach. Myers, who has over 25 years of experience as a player and coach, will be charged to led this group made up of the top 18U players from across Prince Edward Island. The 18U All-Stars will take part in the 2020 Baseball Canada National 18U Championships in London, ON from 20 – 23 August 2019.
