Baseball PEI wishes to express our deepest condolences and sympathies to the family and friends of Ken “Trixie” Dunn, a native of Morell, who passed away last night after a long battle with cancer.
Dunn is a massive builder of baseball on Prince Edward Island. Dunn founded Morell Minor Baseball and then was instrumental in the founding of the current Northside Minor Baseball Association. He was also one of the founders of current Kings County Baseball League (formed in 1991) and was the vice-president/secretary for 25 years. On top of this, he coached and managed countless baseball teams from the 1960s until 2000s, and was involved with various initiatives that led to the growth of baseball in eastern PEI
It should be noted that Ken Dunn’s accomplishments were not only limited to baseball. He was involved in softball, football and hockey throughout many years, and was the president and referee of the Morell Men’s Rec Hockey League for close to 30 years. Also, he was heavily involved in the Morell Lions Club and various other community initiatives.
In 2016, Baseball PEI created the Ken “Trix” Dunn Award, which is “awarded, based on merit, to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the building of baseball on PEI.” Dunn himself was the first recipient.
On behalf of all members of the baseball community on PEI, we offer our support to the entire Dunn family. Rest in peace Trixie.
