Five MLB PHR Events to be Held Across PEI in late June

04/29/2021, 11:30am ADT
By Baseball PEI

In 2021, Baseball PEI and its minor baseball associations are hosting MLB Pitch, Hit & Run events across the province in late June. There are five being hosted by minor baseball associations across the Island in late June, with the top two competitors in each age category from each event advancing to a Provincial final, in Summerside, on Saturday, 10 July.

What is MLB Pitch, Hit & Run? Although there are some differences, it is quite similar to the Honda Hit, Run and Throw that used to take place annually across Prince Edward Island. Check out this link for a description of the program, its rules and more information: https://www.mlb.com/pitch-hit-and-run.

There are girls’ and boys’ divisions at the following age categories: 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U. The top two point-getters in both the girls’ and boys’ division at each age category, at each event, will be invited to participate in a Provincial Final in Summerside on Saturday, 10 July. Also, there is an opportunity for top point-getters to advance to a regional event with eastern Canada in August/September (that is conditional based on current restrictions in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic).

It is free, and it is open to all boys and girls (regardless of whether they are registered to play minor baseball or not). To participate, each player must register online (the deadline for online registration is seven [7] days before the event). The links to each event are below:

Baseball PEI would like to thank all players, coaches, parents and minor baseball associations for a successful 2020 summer season, despite all of the changes and challenges posed by Covid-19!

With the season starting three-five weeks later than usual, the first baseball games took place on 26 June 2020. While there were several changes due to Covid-19 and restrictions and guidelines set forth by the CPHO of Prince Edward Island, each age category played a complete season and completed Provincial Championships. While Provincial Championships were in a different format than usual – most divisions had best-of-three quarterfinals and/or semifinals, with a one-game Final – Prince Edward Island was the only province in Canada that was able to complete Provincial Championships in baseball in 2020.

As well, five minor baseball associations across PEI saw growth in numbers of registered players, and starting on 26 September, seven minor baseball associations across PEI will be participating in Baseball PEI’s new Fall Baseball Pilot program for four-five weeks (with 27 teams taking part in four age categories). Despite challenging circumstances surrounding this season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Baseball PEI has had a successful season, and that is down to the great work done by its membership!

With the completion with the last Provincial Championship on Sunday, 20 September, Baseball PEI would like to congratulate the following 2020 Provincial Champions and runners-up:
